Acrylic sheets are flat, rectangular plastic pieces that have the appearance of glass, but are much stronger (approximately ten times shatter-resistant) than actual glass made from polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), a clear synthetic polymer used as a substitute for glass. They are lightweight, durable and versatile, frequently serving as a shatter-resistant substitute for glass. Acrylic sheets are able to be drilled, cut, bent (when heated) and polished. They can be readily worked with using standard tools, so they are popular both for professional and home use.
